Product Details

Part #6472‑970 (formerly 6455‑474; 6455‑463)

(Ball/socket, single center‑pin snap‑in)

Overview

The 6472‑970 headrest is the OEM reverse‑wrap gray pillow used on a wide range of Sundance® 680 Series spas. It is the current superseding number for the legacy 6455‑474 (and earlier 6455‑463) pillows, preserving the original look, fit, and ergonomics. The pillow uses a single center‑pin ball/socket snap‑in mount—no screws or gaskets required under normal conditions.

Compatible Models & Years

Sundance® 680 Series

  • Edison2013+ (through ~03/2023)
  • Peyton2012+ (through ~03/2023)
  • McKinley06/2014+ (through ~03/2023)
  • Ramona06/2014+ (through ~03/2023)
  • Hartford2007–05/2014
  • Hawthorne2007–05/2014
  • Burlington2008–2012
  • Del Sol Hermosa2003–2004

How It Mounts (Hardware Notes)

  • Mount type: Ball/socket single center‑pin, snap‑in.
  • Additional hardware: Not typically required. Pillows push straight into the molded socket in the spa shell.

If the socket is worn or broken:

  • Some 680 shells used a press‑in receiver molded into the shell. If the socket is cracked/loose, replacing the socket/receiver is required (part varies by shell generation; many dealers list this as a shell‑side service component rather than a separate retail SKU). When the socket is intact, no screws/gaskets are used with this pillow.

Installation (Snap‑In)

  1. Pull the old pillow straight out from the top to release the center ball‑pin from the socket.
  2. Align the center pin on the new pillow with the socket.
  3. Press firmly until you feel/hear the snap.
  4. Check that the pillow is seated and cannot be pulled off easily by hand.
    (Tool‑free; total time typically < 1 minute.)

Materials & Finish

  • Soft‑touch, gray vinyl‑wrapped face over a molded cushion core.
  • Designed to resist UV and spa chemicals better than aftermarket foams.

Care & Maintenance (Extend Pillow Life)

Proper care significantly increases pillow lifespan:

  • Rinse after use: Wipe with fresh water weekly; avoid household cleaners and alcohol/solvent products that degrade vinyl.
  • Leave cover open a few minutes after heavy use to vent chloramines.
  • Water chemistry is critical (see targets below). Pillows degrade rapidly when exposed to low pH, high sanitizer, or out‑of‑range total alkalinity.
  • Remove pillows during spa shocking and leave them off for at least 24 hours.
  • Keep free chlorine and bromine in the manufacturer’s recommended range; avoid sustained levels above target. (Refer to the spa’s owner manual water‑care section for exact ranges.)

Typical target ranges (refer to your specific manual):

  • pH: 7.4–7.6
  • TA: 80–120 ppm
  • Free Chlorine: 2–4 ppm (for chlorine systems)
  • Bromine: 3–5 ppm (for bromine systems)
Maintaining these ranges minimizes swelling, peeling, and vinyl hardening on pillows.

What’s Included

  • (1) Pillow – 6472‑970 (center‑pin snap‑in; hardware not included because it is not required for intact sockets).

Quick Fit Check (Before You Order)

  • Look behind your existing pillow for a single center pin (ball/socket).
  • Confirm your model and build year from the list above (or your serial number sticker).
  • If your spa is a 680 Series and uses the center‑pin snap‑in, 6472‑970 is the correct OEM replacement.

Sundance® Hot Tub Pillows FAQ

Why are hot tub pillows important?

Hot tub pillows provide ergonomic support for your neck and head, helping you fully relax during each soak. Without properly fitting pillows, you may find yourself straining your neck or adjusting your seating position to remain comfortable.

Benefits of properly functioning spa pillows include:

  • Improved comfort during longer soaks
  • Better neck and head support
  • Enhanced relaxation and hydrotherapy experience
  • Reduced muscle tension
  • More enjoyable spa sessions for users of different heights

A worn or missing pillow can significantly reduce the comfort your Sundance® spa was designed to provide.

Why should I choose Genuine Sundance® replacement pillows?

Genuine Sundance® pillows are specifically designed for your spa model and seating configuration.

Benefits include:

  • Exact fit for your Sundance spa
  • Factory-original appearance
  • Premium materials designed for spa environments
  • Proper support and comfort
  • Matching color and texture
  • Easy installation

Aftermarket pillows may look similar online but often differ in shape, density, attachment methods, and durability. Genuine Sundance® pillows help maintain the comfort and appearance of your hot tub.

Why do hot tub pillows deteriorate over time?

Even high-quality spa pillows are considered maintenance items that will eventually need replacement.

Common causes of deterioration include:

Exposure to sanitizer chemicals
High water temperatures
UV exposure from sunlight
Natural aging of materials
Improper water chemistry
Oils, lotions, cosmetics, and hair products

Over time, these factors can cause pillows to become brittle, discolored, cracked, waterlogged, or lose their original shape.

This process is completely normal and expected in all hot tubs.

How often should hot tub pillows be replaced?

Most hot tub owners can expect replacement every 2 to 5 years, depending on:

  • Frequency of spa use
  • Water chemistry maintenance
  • Sun exposure
  • Environmental conditions
  • Proper cleaning and care

Heavy-use spas or spas with poorly balanced water may require pillow replacement sooner.

Replacing worn pillows is one of the easiest ways to refresh the appearance and comfort of your hot tub.

What are the signs that my hot tub pillows need replacing?

You should consider replacing your pillows if you notice:

  • Peeling or cracking surfaces
  • Fading or discoloration
  • Flattened or misshapen cushions
  • Waterlogged foam
  • Tears or splits
  • Loose mounting tabs
  • Difficulty staying attached to the shell

If your pillows no longer provide comfortable support or detract from the appearance of your spa, replacement is usually recommended.

How can I make my Sundance® pillows last longer?

Proper maintenance can significantly extend pillow life.

We recommend:

✅ Maintaining proper water chemistry

✅ Rinsing pillows periodically with fresh water

✅ Wiping away oils and residue

✅ Keeping your cover closed when not in use

✅ Removing pillows when performing shock treatments

✅ Avoiding excessive sanitizer levels

Consistently balanced water is one of the biggest factors in extending the life of spa pillows.

Can poor water chemistry damage hot tub pillows?

Yes.

Improper water chemistry is one of the leading causes of premature pillow deterioration.

Common issues include:

  • Excessively high sanitizer levels
  • Low or high pH
  • High alkalinity
  • Frequent over-shocking
  • Chemical imbalances

These conditions can break down pillow materials, causing cracking, hardening, fading, and loss of flexibility.

Regular water testing helps protect not only your pillows, but also your cover, jets, pumps, and other spa components.

Can I replace hot tub pillows myself?

Absolutely.

Most Sundance® pillows are designed for quick and easy replacement.

Typical installation involves:

  1. Removing the old pillow from its mounting location.
  2. Inspecting mounting clips or receptacles.
  3. Aligning the new genuine replacement pillow.
  4. Securing it into position.
  5. Verifying proper fit and comfort.

Installation usually takes just a few minutes and requires little to no specialized tools.

How do I know which Sundance® pillow fits my hot tub?

This is one of the most common questions we receive.

Sundance® has used various pillow styles across different models and years. Even pillows that appear similar may have different dimensions or mounting systems.

To identify the correct pillow, we recommend providing:

  • Spa model
  • Year of manufacture
  • Photos of the existing pillow
  • Photos of the mounting location

If you're unsure, contact us before ordering. Our team can help identify the correct Genuine Sundance® replacement pillow for your spa.

Is it worth replacing old hot tub pillows?

In most cases, yes.

New pillows are one of the most affordable ways to improve the overall spa experience.

Benefits of replacement include:

  • Restored comfort and support
  • Improved appearance
  • Enhanced luxury feel
  • Better guest experience
  • Like-new spa aesthetics

Many owners are surprised how much newer pillows refresh the look and feel of an aging hot tub.
