Product Details

Overview

Part 6570‑233 is the OEM threaded bushing (anchor insert) used behind the spa shell to provide a threaded receiver for screw‑mounted spa pillows. This component is essential on many early‑2000s Sundance® and Jacuzzi® pillow systems where the pillow is secured with a plastic attachment screw rather than snapping into a socket.

If the bushing is cracked, stripped, or missing, the pillow screw will not tighten properly—causing loose or falling pillows. Replacing the bushing restores proper retention.

Used With (Required Companion Parts)

This threaded bushing is typically used together with:

  • 6570‑231 — Pillow Attachment Screw
Plastic screw that threads directly into 6570‑233 to secure the pillow.

  • 6540‑282 — Pillow Attachment Gasket (select models)
Used between the bushing and shell on some early installations to prevent water intrusion.

  • 6455‑500 — Chevron Pillow Mounting Bracket (older systems)
Where the pillow attaches to a chevron‑style bracket that then fastens into the bushing.

✅ If your pillow is screw‑mounted and the shell hole has no usable threads, you need 6570‑233.

What This Part Does

  • Installs into the spa shell as a permanent threaded insert
  • Accepts the 6570‑231 pillow screw
  • Prevents stripping of the spa shell material
  • Allows secure tightening without damaging fiberglass/acrylic

Installation Notes

Tools required:

  • Phillips screwdriver (for pillow screw)
  • Small wrench or pliers (to seat the bushing, if required)

Basic installation steps:

  1. Remove the pillow and existing screw (if present).
  2. Inspect the shell opening for damage or stripped threads.
  3. Insert 6570‑233 threaded bushing into the shell opening.
  4. Install gasket 6540‑282 if your model originally used one.
  5. Mount the pillow and secure using 6570‑231 screw.
  6. Tighten snug only — do not overtighten.

⚠️ Overtightening can crack the shell or strip the bushing.

Materials

  • Spa‑grade plastic
  • Corrosion‑resistant
  • Designed for hot, chemically treated water environments

Care & Water Chemistry (Important for Longevity)

This bushing supports the pillow system and is affected indirectly by water balance through pillow deterioration.

If using chlorine:

  • Free Chlorine: 2–4 ppm
  • pH: 7.4–7.6
  • Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm

If using bromine:

  • Bromine: 3–5 ppm
  • pH: 7.4–7.6
  • Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm

Additional tips:

  • Remove pillows before shocking
  • Reinstall pillows after 24 hours
  • Avoid prolonged high sanitizer levels that accelerate pillow failure

What’s Included

  • (1) Threaded Pillow Bushing — Part #6570‑233
(Pillow, screw, and gasket sold separately)

Quick Fit Checklist

Choose 6570‑233 if:

  • Your pillow is secured with a screw, not snapped in
  • Your spa is Sundance® 2001+ or Sweetwater® 2003+
  • The pillow screw no longer tightens due to stripped or missing threads
  • You are installing or repairing a chevron or screw‑mounted pillow

If you’re unsure, a photo of the pillow mounting hole (with pillow removed) will confirm fit immediately.

Sundance® Hot Tub Pillows FAQ

Why are hot tub pillows important?

Hot tub pillows provide ergonomic support for your neck and head, helping you fully relax during each soak. Without properly fitting pillows, you may find yourself straining your neck or adjusting your seating position to remain comfortable.

Benefits of properly functioning spa pillows include:

  • Improved comfort during longer soaks
  • Better neck and head support
  • Enhanced relaxation and hydrotherapy experience
  • Reduced muscle tension
  • More enjoyable spa sessions for users of different heights

A worn or missing pillow can significantly reduce the comfort your Sundance® spa was designed to provide.

Why should I choose Genuine Sundance® replacement pillows?

Genuine Sundance® pillows are specifically designed for your spa model and seating configuration.

Benefits include:

  • Exact fit for your Sundance spa
  • Factory-original appearance
  • Premium materials designed for spa environments
  • Proper support and comfort
  • Matching color and texture
  • Easy installation

Aftermarket pillows may look similar online but often differ in shape, density, attachment methods, and durability. Genuine Sundance® pillows help maintain the comfort and appearance of your hot tub.

Why do hot tub pillows deteriorate over time?

Even high-quality spa pillows are considered maintenance items that will eventually need replacement.

Common causes of deterioration include:

Exposure to sanitizer chemicals
High water temperatures
UV exposure from sunlight
Natural aging of materials
Improper water chemistry
Oils, lotions, cosmetics, and hair products

Over time, these factors can cause pillows to become brittle, discolored, cracked, waterlogged, or lose their original shape.

This process is completely normal and expected in all hot tubs.

How often should hot tub pillows be replaced?

Most hot tub owners can expect replacement every 2 to 5 years, depending on:

  • Frequency of spa use
  • Water chemistry maintenance
  • Sun exposure
  • Environmental conditions
  • Proper cleaning and care

Heavy-use spas or spas with poorly balanced water may require pillow replacement sooner.

Replacing worn pillows is one of the easiest ways to refresh the appearance and comfort of your hot tub.

What are the signs that my hot tub pillows need replacing?

You should consider replacing your pillows if you notice:

  • Peeling or cracking surfaces
  • Fading or discoloration
  • Flattened or misshapen cushions
  • Waterlogged foam
  • Tears or splits
  • Loose mounting tabs
  • Difficulty staying attached to the shell

If your pillows no longer provide comfortable support or detract from the appearance of your spa, replacement is usually recommended.

How can I make my Sundance® pillows last longer?

Proper maintenance can significantly extend pillow life.

We recommend:

✅ Maintaining proper water chemistry

✅ Rinsing pillows periodically with fresh water

✅ Wiping away oils and residue

✅ Keeping your cover closed when not in use

✅ Removing pillows when performing shock treatments

✅ Avoiding excessive sanitizer levels

Consistently balanced water is one of the biggest factors in extending the life of spa pillows.

Can poor water chemistry damage hot tub pillows?

Yes.

Improper water chemistry is one of the leading causes of premature pillow deterioration.

Common issues include:

  • Excessively high sanitizer levels
  • Low or high pH
  • High alkalinity
  • Frequent over-shocking
  • Chemical imbalances

These conditions can break down pillow materials, causing cracking, hardening, fading, and loss of flexibility.

Regular water testing helps protect not only your pillows, but also your cover, jets, pumps, and other spa components.

Can I replace hot tub pillows myself?

Absolutely.

Most Sundance® pillows are designed for quick and easy replacement.

Typical installation involves:

  1. Removing the old pillow from its mounting location.
  2. Inspecting mounting clips or receptacles.
  3. Aligning the new genuine replacement pillow.
  4. Securing it into position.
  5. Verifying proper fit and comfort.

Installation usually takes just a few minutes and requires little to no specialized tools.

How do I know which Sundance® pillow fits my hot tub?

This is one of the most common questions we receive.

Sundance® has used various pillow styles across different models and years. Even pillows that appear similar may have different dimensions or mounting systems.

To identify the correct pillow, we recommend providing:

  • Spa model
  • Year of manufacture
  • Photos of the existing pillow
  • Photos of the mounting location

If you're unsure, contact us before ordering. Our team can help identify the correct Genuine Sundance® replacement pillow for your spa.

Is it worth replacing old hot tub pillows?

In most cases, yes.

New pillows are one of the most affordable ways to improve the overall spa experience.

Benefits of replacement include:

  • Restored comfort and support
  • Improved appearance
  • Enhanced luxury feel
  • Better guest experience
  • Like-new spa aesthetics

Many owners are surprised how much newer pillows refresh the look and feel of an aging hot tub.
